New Potential to Reduce Uncertainty in Regional Climate Projections by Combining Physical and Socio‐Economic Constraints
نویسندگان
چکیده
Combining new constraints on future socio-economic trajectories and the climate system's response to emissions can substantially reduce projection uncertainty currently clouding regional adaptation decisions—more than either constraint individually.

Inflated Uncertainty in Multimodel‐Based Regional Climate Projections
Multimodel ensembles are widely analyzed to estimate the range of future regional climate change projections. For an ensemble of climate models, the result is often portrayed by showing maps of the geographical distribution of the multimodel mean results and associated uncertainties represented by model spread at the grid point scale. Here we use a set of CMIP5 models to show that presenting st...
متن کاملUncertainty in Emissions Projections for Climate Models
Future global climate projections are subject to large uncertainties. Major sources of this uncertainty are projections of anthropogenic emissions. We evaluate the uncertainty in future anthropogenic emissions using a computable general equilibrium model of the world economy. Results are simulated through 2100 for carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), hydrofluorocarbons (HFC...

متن کاملThe potential to narrow uncertainty in projections of regional precipitation change
We separate and quantify the sources of uncertainty in projections of regional (∼ 2500 km) precipitation changes for the 21st century using the CMIP3 multi-model ensemble, allowing a direct comparison with a similar analysis for regional temperature changes. For decadal means of seasonal mean precipitation, internal variability is the dominant uncertainty for predictions of the first decade eve...
متن کاملWeighting climate model projections using observational constraints
Projected climate change integrates the net response to multiple climate feedbacks. Whereas existing long-term climate change projections are typically based on unweighted individual climate model simulations, as observed climate change intensifies it is increasingly becoming possible to constrain the net response to feedbacks and hence projected warming directly from observed climate change. O...
